This is a superb little dac, quite excellent even before it was upgraded. It is a Proceed PDP2, a VERY solidly built dac, based around a pair of Burr-Brown PCM58 r2r ladder dac chips, still regarded as one of the best dac chips ever made, and certainly the best 18bit dac ever made. It features both unbalanced rca AND balanced xlr outputs, as well as three rca coax + one AES/EBU xlr balanced digital inputs, as well as a digital output rca jack for no very good reason.

This particular unit was thoroughly upgraded, very recently, by Talking Dog Transducer Company(me), as follows:

1)Filtered IEC power cord connector installed.

2)IXYS soft recovery rectifiers in both power supplies.

3)ALL electrolytic capacitors on dac board replaced with Nichicon(FW & KW grades), as:

a)All pre-regulator secondary filter caps with 50-100 times stock values

b)All post-regulator filter caps with 100 times stock values

c)All dac chip peripheral caps with 3x stock values

4)ALL analog signal opamp chips replaced with Burr-Brown OPA134PA.

The upgrades have transformed the sound of this dac, making it FAR more dynamic, open and richly toned, and the new parts have barely even begun to break in yet. Since it uses r2r ladder dacs,, the PCM58, it is by nature far less sensitive to source jitter than any bitstream type dac(which is almost every dac/player made in the last decade or so), so you need not have an extraordinaty transport/interface, and it is far more able to give bass dynamics that real sense of living weight that is so very hard for bitstream dacs to come remotely close to being able to do. The only drawback is that it is limited to a maximum of 18bit/48kHz source material.

It takes a SOLID 600 hours of music playing time for new parts, especially capacitors, to come close to fully breaking in, e.g., 2.5 weeks of 24 hour disc-on-repeat-play, after which it will be even smoother, more spacious & 3-dimensional than it is currently. I will run it as much as possible between now & unit sale, but will only accept "I don't like it enough" returns AFTER that full 600 hours has been completed. I will, of course, note how much playing time is left to get there when I ship the unit.  I will give the buyer 14 days after completion of the 600hr break-in to decide whether or not the unit sounds good enough to keep.  If the buyer is not happy with the sound of the unit, I will refund full purchase price, including shipping cost(excluding half of international shipping cost, sorry), immediately upon safe return of unit.

Cosmetically, it is as you see it in the photos. It's a pretty industrial & rugged finish, but it is showing it's age, and there is evidence here & there that it lived in a humid climate for much of it's life, but nothing serious or progressive. Physically, this unit is built like a tank, with a VERY thick, welded chassis, and an impressive weight of 15.6lbs, despite it's quite small size(3"h x 8.5"w x 15"d).

Sale is for just the unit itself, but I'd be happy to include a standard power cable by request, and if you need digital input cables, analog interconnect cables or power cables, ask me. I make some of the best in the world, at fairly modest cost, especially compared to what they've beaten. Speaker cables, too.

Sale includes my usual ONE YEAR part/labor warranty(shipping costs shared). Actually, on this unit, it's so extremely unlikely that anything will ever go wrong with it, I have no reservations about giving it a FIVE YEAR warranty, if the buyer will remind me to note it on the sales invoice.

Payment via Paypal or cash-on-pickup(Tucson, Arizona).

Will sell to buyers outside USA, but ONLY if you are a)willing to pay for cost of insured US Postal Express Mail shipping plus $30 non-refundable cost of extra work required for international shipping, or b)you have a continental USA shipping address for Fedex Ground delivery. The unit CAN BE CONFIGURED FOR 220/240VAC POWER, by request, via internal terminal strip jumpers. Will ship set for 120VAC power by default. ( I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that USA/Canada buyers run this & other audio gear on 240VAC power if they have the option, as it definitely sounds better, due to the balanced-line configuration of 240V power in at least these countries.)
