New to US market, the Poppulse ES 9018 is a high refined DAC for a modest price. The unit uses two Sabre 32bit DAC chips to read digital recordings at 44.1K up to 384KHz and also DSD65, DSD128, DSD235 and DSD512. Input is by USB with all sources, Coaxial, AES balanced and OPT1 are limited to PCM recordings. Output is by single ended (RCA) and true balanced (XLR) plugs. Digital volume control is available in 1 dB steps 0 to 99 attenuation. Five digital filtering modes are provided. Dynamic range is 119 dB, Distortion 110 dB, RCA output amplitude is 2.2V RMS, XLR balanced output is 4.5V rms. Two power transformers are used so the noise on the digital circuits do not interfere with the analog. The power supply is caged and isolated inside the DAC.
Sound quality is outstanding without the usual caveat of "for it's price." I sold a $7000 DAC/Music server after acquiring a demo sample of the Poppulse DAC. Deep bass, highly detailed at all frequencies, great rhythm and pacing, and most of all foot tapping musical is my reaction to the sound of the unit. Inspection inside the unit shows thoughtful layout with excellent quality of boards and components associated with much more expensive DAC's. I have owned units selling at $15K which had more "stuff" inside, but certainly had sound that would no way explain the tremendous price differential. Technology improvements of late account for some of this, but the Poppulse DAC is certainly a real bargain in today's marketplace.
I am selling the Poppulse DAC's with permission of the dealer/manufacturer in Hong Kong, he will send the unit direct to you with EMS (5 day airmail insured.) I will handle any service required under a one year warranty. Shipping the unit for service inside the USA will be paid by the buyer. The unit comes with an English language instruction book that includes instructions for setup with computers or music servers.
(Anyone without the Audiogon prescribed number of feedback for BIN purchases should make a bid for the $887 price.)
