This Benchmark Dac was heavily modified by Steve at Empirical Audio. I had every option available at that time put into this DAC. Superclock 3, OPA677 op amps, I2S input. This unit is in a different league than the standard DAC1. I am selling this unit with the USB to I2S Empirical Offramp which itself cost $950 when new. Technology indeed marches on but this design is solid and the guts are golden. Check the pictures for a comparison of the modified Dac vs. an un-modded version. Great sound competitive with today’s best.
Note: This Benchmark’s modification rendered the optical input inoperable. The XLR in was converted to accept I2S. The coax input works the same as the un-modded version.
Questions for the seller |
---|
what is the highest resolution signal this unit will accept over USB? Will it take a 24/192 signal? This unit goes to 96k. As a side note, the mods make the DAC a non-oversampling DAC unlike the original Dac1. I believe this is significant. What you put in is dealt with in its native state and not interpolated up to a higher sample rate. Unfortunately the ceiling is 96K. Thanks for looking. |
