Classe DAC-1
Description :
The equipment made by Classe Audio is often associated with superior works because many of them are recognized as classics worth having for many years to come. The Classe Audio DAC1 is one of the most versatile and best sounding DAC with HDCD available. The overall look and feel is clean and clutter-free. It features five digital inputs: 2 coax, 1 balanced AES/EBU, TOSLINK, and ST. UltraAnalog 20-bit DAC's operating in balanced configuration, and provides 8x oversampling for 32/44.1/48kHz. The controls on the front of the unit include digital input, invert phase, and alter display brightness; there is a standby mode as well, which is necessary since there is no master power switch. HDCD and de-emphasis detection indicators are standard, and phase inversion operates entirely in the digital realm.

The Classe Audio DAC1 presents with remarkable clarity, richness, ease and power. The presentation is wide and deep, and marvelously coherent. The sound is lively, quick, and willing to be saucy and forward with the music. While the tonal balance is perhaps lightly cool, it is not aloof, nor harsh or grainy. It is capable throwing a wide soundstage with reasonable depth. The dynamics of music are finely handled and provides excellent transient slap - especially with rock music. It sounds extremely precise sound so poorly recorded musics are not recommended. The Classe Audio DAC1 is a stunning performer, and it's resolution is only bettered by DACs way beyond its price range.

Classe CDT-1
As Classe Audio CDT-1 compact disk transport is a high quality digital transport applying the latest breakthrough technology in digital audio reproduction. The beliefs behind the Classe CDT-1 is to utilize state-of-the-art technology for extracting the maximum musical performance, but also to embrace the time proven idea of designs without complications, in accordance with the saying "simpler is better." The Classe CDT-1 is a very attractive piece of equipment, with a silver brush aluminum finish on the half-inch thick face plate and dark chassis designed to resist vibration and proper isolation from sources of vibration. The overall look and feel is clean and clutter-free.

The main power is provided by a 27VA toroidal transformer, with full regulation and much elbow room for current requirements. Several power supplies are used to eliminate interference caused by fluctuations induced by heavy current draw on shared supplies. The disk transport uses the Philips CDM12.4 with the L1210 Loader assembly. It employs a newly-developed linear tracking laser pickup which is faster, quieter, and longer lasting. The isolated suspension system of the CDM12.4's optical circuitry and disk motor is completely separated from the disk tray, removing vibrations caused by sudden atmospheric pressure changes. The CDM12.4 is of broadcast quality, and its outstanding construction uses highly efficient, long life motors providing long term reliability. Also, this transport does not require frequent calibration, assuring the long-term alignment will always be right. The problems caused by jitter are solved by having an outstanding power supply and the exceptional reclocking circuitry. Using a crystal oscillator to generate the digital outputs, the final jitter becomes negligible. The Classe CDT-1 transport has AES/EBU, SPDIF and ST outputs, and has a custom remote handset to control all the usual functions. It features an exceptionally wide transmission angle to the IR receiver, and is engineered to last an extremely long time. It also has a standby mode to keep the unit warm when not being used.

The Classe Audio CDT-1 sound is clear, tilting to the cold side of middle ground. It demonstrates a consistent cool characteristic, never harsh or strident, nor richly seductive. The tonal balance is lightly cool as well, it is not aloof, harsh or grainy. The Classe CDT-1 is capable of creating a wide sound stage, with reasonable depth. The cd transport handles dynamic very well, as it provides excellent transient slap especially with rock music. There is no overhang in the sound, constriction or a lack of high-frequency extension. The openness and timbre rendition of the music are superb. The Classe Audio CDT-1 is an exceptionally fine and thoughtfully designed product with a simplistic look and a top notch quality interior to provide astonishing levels of detail, ambient information and musicality.
