"Tchaikovsky composed this work in 1878. At Clarens, near Geneva, following both his mistake of a marriage and his suicide attempt, Tchaikovsky completed both Onegin and the Fourth Symphony early in 1878. After a round trip to Moscow in February for the symphony's premiere, he was visited at Clarens by the violinist Yosif Kotek. Tchaikovsky, in fondness for Kotek, sketched out a violin concerto in just 11 days and had finished scoring it two weeks later, including a new slow movement in place of one that both Kotek and Tchaikovsky's younger brother, Modest, considered to be weak" - AMG.

I have listened to and sold/traded probably about 20 or 30 of this
title/performance on the '.5' label over the years and it is usually one of the
better '.5's. When I got this particular copy I first cleaned it and thought I'd
get around to listening to it sometime soon, fully expecting it to sound
much like the other copies I've had/heard. When I put this one on I was
literally 'blown away' by the sound coming out of my speakers. This copy has all
the positive attributes of the '.5's but it also has the warmth and
'Romanticism' of the 'Shaded Dog' - in spades! Heifetz's Violin sounds like he
is playing right in front of you - there is so much micro detail you can hear
the bow action against the strings but it is not brite, rather it's warm and
'golden', sweet yet highly detailed. Every instrument in the Orchestra appears
like that. You can hear and FEEL the Bass and it has depth and detail, you can
'hear' the bodies of each instrument and sense the air and space around them. No
matter how loud the Crescendos get the integrity of the instruments do not fall
apart, all the detail and 'presence' are still there. When the first movement
was over I wanted to clap - it was that real, as if sitting front row center and
experiencing the full expanse of the Orchestra. The other outstanding virtue
of this copy is the 'rhythm' . Rarely does any recording convey the sense of
movement and timing - pace I guess. This one does. I know that no other '.5' copy, as good as they can be, has ever moved me or sounded like this one.
While the Mendelssohn retains the typical '.5' Series sound qualities , it pales by comparison.

Each record is washed on a VPI cleaning machine using a proprietary 3-5 agent process which is determined by the needs of the individual record. Each record is then listened to 100% to insure that the posted description is exactly what you can expect to get.
