A New Standard for Reference-Level Playback of Discs and Music Files

The Esoteric K-05 is essentially an update of the near-perfect X-05 SACD/CD player. Built with many of the same features that made the X-05 such a game-changer, the K-05 includes the VRDS-NEO VMK-5 Super Audio CD transport mechanism, a 32-bit dual mono D/A converter combining multiple DAC circuits, high sampling rate digital inputs and USB input supporting asynchronous transmission at 24 bits/192 kHz as well as a cutting edge high-precision clock circuit. The K-05 will re-introduce you to your favorite digital recordings, revealing depth and detail you’ve never heard before.

New in the K-05 is an improved voltage controlled crystal oscillator (VXCO) clock generator with its own dedicated power supply for extraordinary accuracy and stability. The K-05 has multiple digital-to-digital conversion capabilities. Music can be up-sampled to as high as 176.4 kHz at 32 bits or up-converted to DSD (Direct-Stream-Digital) before running the signal through the D to A converters. Five separate digital filters are included offering the ability to customize the character of the sound to one’s own personal taste.

The K-05’s large toroidal transformer features low noise, low distortion, and high current with very high efficiency. The strong power circuits, combined with very large power capacitors, supply stable and clean power to all circuits.

 


VRDS-VMK5 Transport
Check out the transport mechanism in this 40-pound sculptured beauty. Nothing on earth can compare to the VRDS-VMK5 transport. There is more resolution and detail in this transport alone than in most disc players that cost twice the price of the K-05. This hybrid turntable is made from high-precision aluminum and polycarbonate material helping to minimize rotational inertia. A hybrid structure, combining high rigidity BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) and steel is used for the turntable bridge which significantly attenuates rotational vibration. The spindle motor improves the accuracy of reading signals through advanced servo control using motor speed feedback loop circuit.

High-Precision VCXO Clock
A high-precision VCXO (voltage controlled crystal oscillator) of +/- 3 ppm (*) is used for the internal clock circuit. A dedicated power supply circuit improves the stability of the clock. The high precision audio clock signal, generated by the VCXO, is directly delivered to the dual mono D/A converter. This enables higher quality reproduction, substantially reducing jitter.

High Quality Buffer Circuits
For the final stage of analog audio output (buffer amplifier), New JRC’s high end audio operational amplifier MUSES is used. These buffer circuits are laid out symmetrically for each of the hot/cold signal lines to construct a fully balanced configuration. When the RCA audio output is selected, the buffer amplifier is switched to parallel configuration. These enhancements provide the best sound quality for each of the balanced and unbalanced audio signal outputs.

Dual Mono D/A Converters
The analog output circuit of the K-05’s D/A converter has both high end resolution as well as natural and musical texture. Asahi Kasei’s top-end 32-bit DAC device "AK4399" is used. A parallel/differential output where two circuits combine per channel provides high linearity and low noise. The converters and analog output circuits, which make up a fully dual mono configuration, are located on the left and right hand sides of the board, completely separated from the digital signal processing circuit. This layout allows for excellent channel separation and high-quality playback with rich localization and sonic depth.
