  • THIS AUCTION OPEN TO BIDDERS IN THE US AND CANADA.
  • IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN THE US OR CANADA PLEASE DO NOT BUY IT.

We’re Stereo Exchange, located in New York City. We've been in business since the 1970s and are a major high-end dealer. We have all the current top brands including Audio Research on display in our huge showroom.

I have always been impressed with Audio Research products. They consistently sound good and are very solidly built. The company also offers a high level of service and upgrade paths for their products.

With ARC, it’s all about the midrange.

It’s not that the highs are not smooth and extended (they are), or that their designs lack any bass (the bass seems to go VERY deep), but it’s the detail in the midrange that instantly hit you. You can literally hear instruments clearly that are blurred in lesser designs.

This layer has a superb transport and digital outputs, so it could also make a great CD transport.

On the other hand, you would have to spend a LOT of money to get a D/A converter as good as the one inside the CD5.

AND BASS! This player has FANTASTIC bass impact. I don’t know why, but it’s easy to hear.

This may be due, in part, to the fact that this is really a TURNTABLE for CDs, with no drawer to break or wear belts out.

Instead, you slide open a door on the top, place your CD on the turntable, place the “puck” over the CD, and slide the drawer closed.

This type of construction enabled ARC to put a full floating CD mechanism in the player, like a fine turntable.

For some reason, maybe coincidence, players that load like this seem to often sound better, and have amazing bass.

Maybe it’s due to the suspension making the laser less susceptible to vibration and using less error correction…I don’t really know!

I DO KNOW for SURE that this player sounds GREAT.

The CD5 has low output impedance. This means that you could have LONG cable runs to your preamp without fear of signal degradation or noise.

At only about 12” deep, this chassis will be easy to place on any shelf.

  • CONDITION: I have looked the piece over carefully and I cannot find any imperfections that are significant enough to photo or talk about.
  • It would be hard for me to imagine finding one in significantly better shape.
  • PRICING: The retail price of this player was $6000.00.

  • We are selling it for $2988.00.

That includes the remote control, owner’s manual copy, CD hold-down puck, and a new factory fresh box we just received from ARC.

Please give it a good home.
