This beautiful head shell features magnesium base with a top layer of Rosewood providing improved decoupling and improved resonance for delicate detail and depth. The pure silver wiring marries with the tone arm to provide a touch of silver "detail" without over doing the high frequencies.

Larry Denham: I have spent some time listening to this head shell and it is superbly capable of managing cartridge resonance and improves the sound of any cartridge I have installed. Most noticeable is the control of high frequencies - less hash and more air and soundstage. The low frequencies extend deeper with more control and this is an obvious and not just a subtle improvement. The difficult passages such as piano – classical – certainly have a better tonality and definition of instruments.

The head shell uses 3 basically constrained layers

1 – The top plate is brass and provides an excellent surface for the Aluminum Head Shell Screws to firmly grip (light screw torque) and dampen properly

2 – The brass is laminated to the Rose Wood Layer 

3 – The Rose Wood is laminated to the magnesium base head shell

4 – Copper contact pins on head shell

1 – The Cartridges wires are silk wrapped pure silver and slightly longer and easier to install – cleaner signal path and faster sound

2 – Brass Arm Lift – no resonance

The new Ortofon Quintet Black Moving Coil is a truly remarkable cartridge and when installed on the new Rose Wood head shell it really shines and was more enjoyable than anything I can recall within this price range. ($1,000.00). I cannot recall a cartridge with a true Nude Shibata on Boron cantilever, superb stylus geometry - same as used on the Cadenza Black ($2700.00) which is a highly acclaimed and well reviewed cartridge and one of my personal favourites. 

This enables the Quintet to reproduce the most demanding music from classical to rock. The cartridge begins to break in after 50 hours and is sounding better all of the time.

Bottom line, if you are looking for a superbly musical, excellent detail, fast, clean tight and strong bass response, this is a combination I am enjoying .d I think most vinyl lovers will be more than surprised.
